This is an example of how being organized and patiently saving your coupons for just the right timing, can really work to your benefit!
I had 5 coupons for FREE Kellogg’s FiberPlus cereal, 5 $1/1 Hatfield Ham Steaks coupons from the 10/9 and 10/16 inserts, and as I was going through my 10/9 inserts, I found a coupon for a FREE Dr. Pepper TEN that I somehow missed before.
At Giant this week there was a deal that if you buy 4 boxes of cereal you get $6 back instantly.
Since the FiberPlus cereal was $3.99 and my coupon maxed at $3.50, the cereal was only $.49. Plus, I’d be getting back $6.00 instantly, so I’d have about $4 overage! Here is what my first transaction looked like:
FiberPlus cereals at $3.99 x 4 = $15.96
Hatfield Ham Steaks at $2.00 x 5 = $10.00
Dr. Pepper 10 2-liter at $1.50 = $1.50
Subtotal = $27.46
– $3.50 x 4 cereal coupons = $14.00
– $1.00 x 5 Hatfield coupons = $5.00
– $1.50 for a FREE 2-liter = $1.50
– $6.00 instant savings for the cereal
= $26.50 in coupons and discounts
TOTAL COST = $0.96!!!
Since I knew the extra FiberPlus coupon I had would give me overage, I decided to look to see if I had any other Kellogg’s coupons with me. I opened my coupon purse, and looked in the envelope marked “K” (since I sort them alphabetically). Sure enough, I had a $1/3 Rice Krispies coupon.
I knew I needed one more Kellogg’s UPC for the $10 rebate I was waiting to mail, I would be getting $1 back from SavingStar for buying 3 boxes of Kellogg’s, and I could submit two more rebates for the FiberPlus cereal (expires 11/30), so I made the quick decision to go ahead and purchase 4 more boxes of cereal. I usually try to get cereal for less than $1.00 per box, so this was a pretty good deal and we love homemade rice krispy treats! 🙂
And actually, after I file all my rebates and get all my SavingStar credits, I think I’ll probably have made money on this deal.
