Every year our family marks the calendar for the Redner’s Markets Baby & Family Expo. A great weekend of family fun. This year’s expo is Saturday, November 3 and Sunday, November 4 from 10am to 5pm in Reading.
The first year we went, our son was in the About Families Diaper Derby. And let me tell you, if your child is at crawling age – you will not want to miss entering them in this! It is a very exciting race, full of cheering and laughs, not to mention every one that enters wins something!
Freebies
Our family also loves to sample the free snacks, foods and beverages. In the past we have sampled Chiquita bananas, Nesquick chocolate milk mix, Tree Ripe orange juice, Turkey Hill ice cream, apple cider, and other items from Ocean Spray, Clover Farms and TastyKake. Many vendors hand out some free coupons for their products as well! If you want to wait in a shorter line, you will want to arrive at the expo center before 10am – but even if you don’t get there early, the lines really do move quite quickly!
In addition to free coupons, you will also receive freebies from brands like Kellogg’s, McCormick, Voortman, Reading Eagle, and Fresh Express. Our favorite last year was the Kellogg’s reusable grocery shopping bags with Tony the Tiger, the Smacks frog and the Froot Loops toucan! These are some of the freebies we got in 2010!
Kid-Friendly Event
What makes this event a great family activity is the amount of stuff for kids! Waiting in line for the freebies is easy for them because of all the free stuff and attention they get while they wait! Last year my son ate his banana, juice boxes, hot dog, and cookie, while also getting his picture taken with Dora the Explorer at the Kellogg’s booth. And then he burned off all his energy in the inflatable slides and bounces at the K12 Play Park!
Prizes, Tickets, Directions . . .
At the event you can also enter to win a year’s free groceries ($2600.00 value) along with a host of other great hourly prizes, play games, watch artists, singers and dancers and meet a host of costumed characters – including the Pepperidge Farm Goldfish (which was our favorite!).
You can buy discounted tickets online or at the door. Discounted tickets online are BOGO making them $3 for adults, $2 for kids and senior citizens. Kids 2 and are free!
Directions to the Greater Reading Expo Center are here. (Note: The first year we went, we got a little lost. If you are coming from Lancaster, just follow Route 222 North to Route 12 East. Take the 11th Street exit, turn Left at the light and then turn right at the second light onto Exposition Ave. Follow that road up to a large parking lot in front of the expo center building.)
