Have you ever wondered where Turkey Hill Ice Cream started? Or how Turkey Hill got its name? Our family visited the Turkey Hill Experience in Columbia with our 4 year old and 2 year old, to get these questions answered, give our kids the experience of learning the ice cream making process, and to be able to offer you a genuine Turkey Hill Experience review!
Our Turkey Hill Experience Review
We felt the experience was well designed, keeping all ages entertained and engaged. Toddlers enjoy the ball pit and slide, preschoolers enjoy the hands on activities and space invader bacteria games, older children and adults can read and learn about ice cream and tea in deeper detail—and of course all ages love to taste the teas and ice cream!! Even the movie is so well done that the youngest of children will sit and watch it!
Turkey Hill Experience PA
The Turkey Hill Experience opened in 2011 and includes 26,000 square feet of family-friendly exhibits and activities. Located in Columbia, PA, the Experience highlights Turkey Hill’s rich history and how the Dairy makes its popular ice cream and iced tea.
Here’s what you’ll find inside the experience:
- FREE, unlimited ice cream and iced tea samples
- The ability to make your own virtual ice cream flavor and real ice cream flavor
- An authentic, vintage Turkey Hill delivery truck (get behind the wheel!)
- A ball pit, slide and other fun activities for kids of all ages
- Games and other hands-on exhibits that test your ice cream and iced tea knowledge
- A chance to star in your own Turkey Hill TV commercial
- A stroll through the history of Turkey Hill Dairy
- An opportunity to test your farming skills by milking a virtual cow
The Taste Lab
Designing a virtual ice cream flavor is definitely fun, but visitors to the Turkey Hill Experience Taste Lab can also create their very own real ice cream flavor.
During the 40-minute Taste Lab experience, guests start with an ice cream base and add in the flavoring, mix-ins, syrups and swirls of their choice to create their own unique concoction while a Turkey Hill Dairy expert provides an Ice Cream 101 class. After a few minutes in the freezer, your personalized pint is ready to be sampled and taken home.
Ice cream flavor bases include favorites like vanilla and chocolate, but you can also start with apple, teaberry, mango and cotton candy-flavored ice cream.
There are more than 25 mix-ins to choose from, including blueberries, almonds, toffee pieces, gummy candies and cookie dough (among many others) which means the possibilities are nearly endless when it comes to creating the ice cream flavor of your dreams!
How much do tickets cost?
A portion of the Turkey Hill Experience is open to the public at no charge. Admission is required to visit the main exhibit area and the Taste Lab. The Taste Lab has limited seating and is subject to availability (especially on the weekends), so ordering your tickets online before your visit is recommended.
To visit just the Turkey Hill Experience it is FREE for children 3 and under and up to $9.95 per person depending on your age. If you wish to include the Taste Lab in your experience (which we highly recommend!), rates range from $4.55 to $14.50 per person.
Turkey Hill Experience Coupons
From what we can find, there are no coupon offers, promo codes, deals or discounts to the Turkey Hill Experience. However, we have seen coupons being offered at large events like the PA State Farm Show, where every student who completed the scavenger hunt received a coupon to use on their next visit.
Occassionaly we also see Turkey Hill Experience offer special promo codes like this one in summer 2018 with Weis Markets.

That is a cool place! Pricey, though. I hope they lower the admission. That’s why I’m entering for free tickets!!

If the delicious ice cream bar wasn’t enough to lure me in . . . the ball pit for the kids did! We might just go even if we don’t win. Thanks!

Children loved it when we went. Like said, it is a little pricey so would love free tickets to take them again.
