My kids absolutely LOVE the jump pad they have set up again at Oregon Dairy Farm Market and Restaurant (they had taken it down for Oregon Dairy Family Farm Days last week). So we decided to go this morning since we had another errand in the area.
When we arrived, inevitably my daughter had to go to the bathroom almost immediately. As I was waiting for her, I noticed a little fawn. It was barely walking, so I was thinking it probably wasn’t very old. When I asked the other people, they figured it was one day old.
We jumped for about a half hour, and then I asked the kids if they wanted to see the fawn one last time. I was so glad I did!
When we got over to look at it, here the mom was birthing two more fawns! I had no idea a deer could have three fawns. I assumed they only had one at a time.
From the view I had at first, I honestly thought there was only two fawns and I figured the black thing was the placenta. And then we looked more closely . . .
After a few minutes, the mom got up and we realized there were three fawns and the one had just been born! Her mothering instinct kicked in, and she started taking care of the youngest newborn fawns, cleaning it off.
I literally couldn’t believe it was happening. What an experience!
I captured as many photos as I could with all the people and excitement—yet wanting to enjoy and experience the moment myself too. My favorite was when the fawns walked for the first time!
I also grabbed this quick video after they were born, and as the mom was taking care of her newborns. Amazing!
If you want to show your kids three little fawns, I definitely recommend heading over to Oregon Dairy sometime in the next week or two. They are absolutely adorable, and so friendly! When we were there, they were right up next to the fence, so close you could touch them at one point.
I didn’t see them, but other spectators were saying the white deer also has a baby fawn.
And of course your kids can enjoy the jump pad then too. 😉
