This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Just Between Friends of Reading. All opinions are my own.
When I was pregnant with my first child, my mom’s church did a pretty unique thing. There were a few ladies who were all having their first grandchildren. The pastor’s wife organized a surprise Grandma-To-Be Shower for all of the new Grandma’s!
At the shower, we played normal baby shower games, ate delicious baby shower food, and gave small gifts ($5 and under) to the new Grandma’s. It was a wonderful time of celebration and was special not just for the Grandma-to-be but also for the mom-to-be. What a unique opportunity to celebrate your mom and appreciate her excitement for the new baby too!
Why do I tell you this story? The number one reason is because it might be something you never thought of, and you’d like to try! The second reason is to let you know about a great event coming up soon where you can buy gifts for your grandma-to-be shower. The JBF Kids Consignment sale in Lancaster!
First things first, I need to point out that first-time moms and Grandmas can enter the sale for FREE on October 5, beginning at 4pm. Sign up for the JBF Lancaster: First Time Parents and Grandparents ticket.
So many grandmas today babysit their grandkids or take care of them at some point. It is a great idea to get grandma’s the things they are going to need, and to remember it is exciting for them also!
8 Things Every Grandma Should Have
1. Pack N Play
Instead of buying a crib when her first grandchild was born, my mother-in-law bought a Graco Pack N Play. These are perfect for Grandma’s house as they include everything in one — a napper, a changing table, a mobile toy and a play yard for as the baby grows.
>> Be sure to also grab fitted sheets and a Pack N Play crib mattress cover. <<
2. Umbrella Stroller
Grandma will likely want a small umbrella stroller that she can easily transport but won’t require a lot of room.
>> An umbrella stroller is an economical choice you can likely find for less than $20 at a consignment sale. <<
3. Books
Every Grandma must have quality books! Consignment sales are perfect for buying books at a great price, and there are hundreds to choose from!
Many books are priced at $2 or less!
Here are some favorites to look for: Goodnight Moon, Llama Llama Red Pajama, Love You Forever, I Love You, Grandma, and Grandma and Me: A Lift the Flap Book.
4. Melissa & Doug
Melissa & Doug toys are educational and durable. Grandma will love keeping them in her home, and they will last through many grandkids! They also make some incredible products for Grandma to keep in her purse for church or waiting rooms.
Melissa & Doug products are 40% off retail price at JBF!
5. Bottle Brush and Drying Rack
If Grandma will be taking care of the infant, mom will probably provide her own bottles for the baby, but Grandma will still need a bottle brush and a bottle drying rack (retail for $12+).
>> Bottle drying racks sell for about $3-5 at a conisgnment sale. <<
6. Bumbo
Bumbos are excellent for Grandma. The baby can sit in it on the floor so Grandma knows she is safe, or Grandma can even take it outside while she works in the garden or weeds. Buying a Bumbo at a consignment sale equals huge savings!
>> Bumbos typically sell for $15-25 at a consignment sale, but new are $35+. <<
7. Cute Outfits
Grandmas love to keep a few cute clothes at their house for the grandchildren. Clothes that are special for at Grandma’s house and are only worn there. Onesies like I love you to the moon and back, I love my Grandma and Loved by Grandma will leave lasting imprints in memories.
8. Photo Album & Frames
When the baby is not at Grandma’s house, Grandma will love having a photo album (otherwise known as a grandma brag book) or picture frames for her first grandchild. Here is a neat photo frame I found at last year’s sale.
