One Saturday in February every year, USA Hockey and 500 local associations across the country host Try Hockey For Free Day!
Locally, the Lancaster Ice Rink encourages children ages 4 to 9, to come try youth hockey as part of Come Play Hockey Month. Limited equipment is available for use, so students must register at tryhockeyforfree.com.
Event starts at 9:00AM and ends at either 10am or 11am, depending on the rink you choose.
Our Personal Experience with Try Hockey For FREE Day
We took our 4 year old for the first time two years ago. It was an incredible experience! The instructors work so closely with the children to help them learn whether they are just starting to skate or learning how to use the puck and score a goal!
Our son had never even worn ice skates before. But he overcame fears and by the end of the morning was skating really well, even hitting the puck back and forth. The teenagers that teamed up to help him, were kind, considerate, patient and encouraging.
I highly recommend Try Hockey For FREE Day if you have a child between the ages of 4 and 9.
P.S. I don’t’ know if they always do this, but our son got a FREE hockey jersey to keep, and he treats it as a prize possession!
I highly recommend Try Hockey For FREE Day if you have a child between the ages of 4 and 9.
