Did you know that National Donut Day was started by the Salvation Army in 1938? They began National Donut Day in honor of the ladies who served all the soldiers donuts during World War I. Today, many businesses still support and recognize the Salvation Army as part of their National Donut Day celebrations.
While most places in Lancaster County that offer free donuts do require a purchase, there are a few donut locations just outside of Lancaster County that offer completely free donuts. So if you’re up for a drive or will be traveling through those areas, you might want to add them to your quick stop list! And if you’re a donut lover, you probably won’t mind staying in Lancaster County and getting a free donut with your purchase.
- Achenbach’s (Leola) will offer one FREE Long John to all visitors on Friday, June 7!
- Duck Donuts (Fruitville Pike) will offer a FREE classic donut of your choice with any purchase. Classic flavors include bare, cinnamon sugar and powdered sugar coated donuts – flavors that originated on the beaches of the Outer Banks when they first opened 12 years ago!
- Dunkin’ Donuts (numerous locations) is offering a FREE classic donut with the purchase of any beverage.
- Maple Donuts (York, PA) is offering FREE donut to all visitors.
- Krispy Kreme is giving away a FREE donut of your choice. There is not a Lancaster location for Krispy Kreme, in fact the closest one is 46 miles away in New Castle, DE or Havertown, PA. However, if you’ve ever been to a Krispy Kreme and had one of their fresh donuts, you know exactly why I’m including it on the list. They are amazing donuts!
- Walmart. Participating stores will be offering FREE samples of donuts and Seattle’s Best Coffee from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. You might want to contact your Walmart before you visit to be sure they are participating.
