Have you heard of the new Amos Herr Dream Park & Playground in Landisville, PA? The park just opened in October 2016. It’s created with a child’s imagination in mind and full of unique and exciting play areas for kids of all ages! You won’t want to miss this hidden secret in Lancaster County.
To get to the Amos Herr Dream Park we took Route 283 and got off at the Landisville exit. If you’re headed there from Ephrata, you’ll be excited to learn that it only took us about 20-25 minutes. Not bad for what can be a full day of fun at this park! After we took the Landisville exit, we turned left onto Yellow Goose Road—which for some reason made our entire carload laugh hysterically. 😉
Please note: if you follow the directions from Google or Mapquest, you will probably miss the entrance to the park. The coordinates aren’t quite right. Follow the address from their Facebook page to get you to the correct location, or just watch for Nissley Road. You’ll find a large parking lot in front of the park. It is located at 1756 Nissley Road, Landisville.
We watched some videos and looked at some photos of the Amos Herr Dream Park before we headed to the park, so we knew a little of what to expect. But let me tell you, it is even more impressive in person! The park was designed for children ages 5-12. Adult supervision is recommended.
We entered through a really cute covered bridge to start. I just love covered bridges! This was also a great place to cool off and have my kids sit and wait for me while I was rounding up my crew later in the day when it was time to leave.
The park has several musical hands-on centers. I loved that they all sounded beautiful and not old and clunky and out of tune. The drums were impressively loud and clear—very entertaining for the kids!
The little kid side of the park has a sandbox, small see-saws, riding animals, stationary tractors to climb on, a barn, little bridges, and play houses.
The bigger kid area is sure to be fun for many ages. I loved the unique options that you don’t find at other parks like the sit and spin, high climbing tower, climbing walls, and zipline.
You’ll also love the traditional swings, slides and monkey bars clearly designed with a child’s imagination in mind.
I found the park to be very well designed and thought-out for parents. The middle of the park has a large pavilion-like sitting area that is partially covered, perfect for parents to enjoy some shade while their children play. Its also a perfect sitting area to see kids in all areas of the park.
Underneath the parents benches, is a crawl space, big enough for most children to play under safely—a perfect cool spot in the hot summer sun.
There is a water fountain at the park (too tall for a 3 year old to use, but that could be considered a good thing if you don’t want kids playing in it!) There is also a public restroom building a very short distance from the park.
You can visit the Amos Herr Dream Park Facebook Page to learn more and keep updated on the park and playground. And check out this video to give a 360 degree view of the playground.
The only thing that made me a little nervous was the high climbing tower. My 3-year-old is very adventurous and before I knew it, he was at the very top. I couldn’t do anything but remain calm. He was completely fine and could easily maneuver down by himself, but it took all my momma’s heart strength not to envision what could happen if he would slip!
I recommend this park for families with kids of all ages, whether mom or dad is bringing them. Kids will find plenty of opportunity to spread out and be on their own when they want their own space, or to bond with siblings at the team-building interactions like the zip-line.
(The zip-line was a little difficult for smaller kids to pull back on their own after they rode it, but it is encouraging to see the older kids help the younger kids!)
