I have always been told that going to Dutch Wonderland in August is the worst time to go because there are tons of people. Especially on the weekends. It is also a bad time because they are low on workers since college students have returned to college, so many rides are closed.
Well, being the curious and investigative family that we are, we decided to head to Dutch Wonderland, in August, on a weekend, to see just how long the lines are. Here’s what we found.
5 Dutch Wonderland Rides with the Longest Wait
I do want to note that we were surprisingly shocked that we did not wait longer than 5 minutes for any of the other Dutch Wonderland rides. We visited on a Sunday in August, during the busiest time of their season. We were pretty pleased with that and I tell you more about it at the end of this post.
1. Log Flume (21 minutes)
We entered this line when the end of the line was just passed the first corner after the bridge. About 2 minutes after we got in line, we looked back and the line was over the bridge! We waited a total of 21 minutes in line but it felt like it went pretty fast. I’m guessing the people at the very end of the line when it was across the bridge probably waited about 30-35 minutes. Our guess is that this ride has the longest wait usually.
2. Sky Ride (20 minutes)
We waited 20 minutes in this line, however I want to point out that this was at the Dutch Wonderland entrance. There was NO WAIT to come back on the Sky Ride to the front of the park.
3. Pipeline Plunge (20+ minutes)
When we entered the pipeline plunge line we were told the wait would be an hour. We waited in the blue line and it only took about 20 minutes. I am guessing the black tube line would have taken closer to 40 minutes. The line was a little more than half way down the stairs when we started.
4. Monorail – 8:48 minutes (7.5 minute ride)
We waited 8:48 minutes in line for the monorail. We entered the line just as the monorail left for its 7.5 minute ride. There were several people in line behind us who had to wait for two cycles of the monorail to go, which means their wait was more like 17 minutes.
5. Space Ship (7 minutes)
If you aren’t familiar with this ride its the white spaceship near the waterpark. Plan to wait 7 minutes each time it starts. The good thing we learned, is that you have enough time to run to the waterpark bathroom and still make it back before the ride starts. You learn these things quickly when you have little ones waiting in line with you. 😉
We waited less than five minutes for every other ride we went on! We didn’t go on all the rides, and one ride was closed, but I was so surprised at the short wait times!! I do want to point out that we did not wait for the Turnpike Cars (and I’m guessing that ride was at least a 15 minute wait, so add that to the list of long waits!)Â We saved Bumper Cars for the end of the day, and they were closed by the time we went back to them, so we also didn’t get to wait in that line.
We did not go on a lot of the really little kid rides, but it looked like all the kid rides were a five minute or less wait, perhaps with the exception of the monster trucks. In years past, our kids were little enough to LOVE that ride and I remember waiting awhile for that one.
And as for the rides being open, they either have more employees working the rides this August than in other years, or it was because it was a weekend—they probably always try to have more rides open on the weekend.
What has your experience been at Dutch Wonderland in August? Did you find the rides to have pretty reasonable waits too?
