WHAT IS THE WORKS?
The Works is a large indoor entertainment facility in Wyomissing, PA, about 25-30 minutes east of Lancaster. They have 2 restaurants, a high-speed go kart track “Slick Willy’s”, a multi-million dollar arcade, and a huge indoor “Ballocity” play structure for kids—plus now a new Xtreme Air trampoline park too.
The building was purchased, and after massive renovations opened as “The Works” in April 2003. Eleven years later, the business has been through a constant process of change and growth, with more growth and change to come.
I wanted to give those of you who have never been there an idea of what games you will find and the variety of entertainment for various age levels, so I included numerous photos below. Please note, you will find tons of other games there too, this is just a quick overview.
And be sure to read to the bottom of the post, for quick easy ways to save a lot of money on your visit!
I think adults will love some of the classic games!
And there are things for the littlest of kiddos too!
Here’s a tip, remember that the skeeball only costs 1 credit, so save your credits for the end when you have only a few left on the card. This is my all-time favorite game!
Some of the games were more difficult for a 4 year old to figure out, but a lot of the time he enjoyed doing them anyway. He had no idea he was losing, he was just having a blast! I had to stand behind him and tilt the bike for this ride, but he was in his glory! My 6-8 year olds always have a blast playing all the games too.
Many of the arcade games reward you with tickets that are put back on your game room card. When you are finished playing, you can redeem your tickets for prizes. In this photo, my 4 year old was proud of the prizes he chose for 190 tickets. He was initially disappointed he didn’t have enough tickets for the 3,000 and 1,500 ticket prizes, but after a little time of explanation he decided he’d rather have a prize today than to walk away with nothing. 😉
We spent $10 to get this deal that gave us $20 worth of game room credit. We played games for over an hour and just enjoyed our time together. A lot of the time I would just let him play the game and help or watch him, but sometimes I competed against him and played too. It was a way I could use our credits wisely so he’d get more game time.
We earned 190 tickets (our objective was to have fun, not get a lot of tickets), and I was decently impressed with the prize choices for that amount of tickets. He loves playing his dart board with his older siblings and the plane was the first thing he did when he got home. We built it together, and now he flies it everywhere! 😉
