One of the Christmas light shows on our bucket list this holiday season was the Star Barn drive through light show. Despite the mixed reviews it was something we really wanted to see for ourselves. So this weekend we took the leap and headed over to Elizabethtown.
We arrived at 5 PM when they opened, which was nice since there wasn’t a line yet. The weather was incredibly foggy, which worried me about our experience, but we ended up agreeing that the fog added a mystical atmosphere to the lights.
As we enter the property there were signs and lights dialoguing the birth in life of Jesus Christ. We thought this was the start of the show but it was only just the beginning.
After we paid for our tickets we started the real drive through a gravel lane and so many more lights. They were a different kind of lights. Many reviews said that they were disappointed it wasn’t to music nor did they have flashing lights. If you were looking for Motion, movement and flashing, I would probably go to a different show.
However if you love the beauty of the Stone Gables property, and the history of the star barn and architecture itself I would not pass up the opportunity to visit this show this holiday season. We were absolutely in all of the views. The lights on the barn we are captivating. In fact many of the video and photos I tried to capture don’t do justice because I couldn’t focus on taking the picture, I just had to take it all in myself.
What does the show include?
At the beginning of your drive you will get a Christmas CD that you can keep. We chose to listen to the CD as we drove through the light show. We believe it added to our experience and would recommend it. We decided you can’t drive through a light show at Christmas time without listening to some music.
Near the end of the light show children receive a goodie bag from Santa. He had an arrived yet on our first time driving through, but we chose to drive around again and the second time he was there. This was also a really neat experience as her kids love yelling hello to Santa out the window and hearing him laugh “Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Christmas!”
As I said earlier, families may choose to drive through the show as many times as they would like. If the line isn’t long we recommend driving through again. I felt like I was able to experience more of the barn lights the second time through. It was just so beautiful.
Who would we recommend visit the light show?
Anyone who loves history or architecture are beautiful lights at Christmas time will love the show. If you have appreciation for the star barn and how it was moved to the Stone Gable property, I think you would find it fascinating to enjoy the lights.
Again though, if you visit the Star Barn Light Show please know that this is what you will be experiencing. Prepare your children to enjoy the story behind Christmas, the lights and the beauty of the barn and other buildings. While it is mostly focused on those things, they will still find some really cute snowman, reindeer and other traditional Christmas holiday figures.
