There are many great opportunities to ring in the New Year with your family at some really awesome local events in Lancaster County, but sometimes it’s just easier to stay home. The challenge can be to make the day /evening fun for both you and the kids. Here are five fun ideas to do at home this New Year’s Eve with your kiddos, that everyone in your family will enjoy!
1. Create a Family Time Capsule
It’s amazing how things change from year to year. This New Year’s Eve, take some time with your family to “capture” any events or memories from 2018 and make a Family Time Capsule that you can open New Year’s Eve, 2019! Consider filling out and including a year in review questionnaire, or adding favorite vacation pictures or movie/show ticket stubs. 2. Plan a Family New Year’s Craft

- Elementary children will love learning about New Year’s customs in twenty different countries in this book called New Year Everywhere by Arlene Erlbach. This book is a great way to learn about world customs.
- Squirrels New Year’s Resolution by Pat Miller is a great book to read with your children! With the help of her friends, Squirrel learns about what it means to make a New Year’s resolution. An excellent read for the beginning of the calendar year or the beginning of the school year!
- The Night Before New Year’s by Natasha Wing is an excellent read and super budget-friendly if you want to purchase it for your own collection. Or, you can watch it being read to you here!!
4. Video a New Year’s Eve Interview
Start a new tradition this year and create a New Year’s Eve video that you can watch next New Year’s Eve. Interview each family member and record their answers to questions like:
- What is your name?
- How old are you?
- What do you love to eat?
- What is your favourite film?
- What is your favourite book?
- What is your favourite song?
- Who is your best friend?
- What do you want to do when you are a grown up?
- What makes you feel happy?
- What makes you feel sad?
- Can you remember something you did this year that you really enjoyed?
- Is there anything or anyone that you miss?
- What do you think love is?
5. Play New Year’s Eve Bingo
Sometimes the best way to spend the New Year’s Holiday is by just staying home and spending time together watching all the amazing countdown events on TV. Did you know that you can watch the NYC ball drop online? Here is a printable New Year’s Bingo sheet to fill out while you watch the ball drop at midnight!
