STEM/STEAM are based on the idea of educating students in four/five specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. WHAT: Students will actively experiment with the principles of mechanical movement of simple machines through the use of axles, gears, and motors to create robots while facilitating a deeper understanding of mechanics.

Quarryville Library Presents:
WHAT: The Quarryville Library is offering a new monthly series of STEM activities! STEM, short for Science Technology, Engineering, and Math. STEM-based programming is all about getting kids and families excited about math and the sciences. These monthly programs are hands-on, using kits provided by Agilent Technologies, that attendees get to keep at the end! Best for children ages 8 – 12 years of age. WHAT: The Library is hosting the STEM Mobile, presented by the Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania! They are presenting a program about Robotics. WHAT: Young cryptographers will learn about simple codes and ciphers. They will practice solving some classic ciphers and codes and then encode and encipher their own secret messages. AGES 10+ Free. Registration required. Deadline to register is noon on March 14th.

WHAT: Join us as we explore animal adaptations with Ann Strauss, Naturalist for Lancaster County Parks and Recreation. After reading Dr. Seuss’s “If I Ran the Zoo”, we’ll learn about animal adaptations. Then you’ll have the chance to create your own animal with special adaptations out of clay. Science of Seuss – McElligot’s Pool
WHAT: Join us while we welcome Lancaster Parks and Recreation Naturalist Mary Ann Schlegel. This program will introduce salt water, freshwater, still and flowing and the numerous water conditions all around us and different creatures to fill those waters. To accompany the reading of this Seuss classic we will introduce some of the insects, mollusks, amphibians, fish and reptiles that call our waters home.
