When my kids were really young, I heard about something called the National Consumer Panel—a way that I could voice my opinions and help manufacturers and retailers make decisions on what products to develop and improve. Mostly though, I liked the idea because I earned gift cards and some pretty neat rewards!
What does an NCP Panelist do?
I simply scanned my groceries every week and earned credit (they now pay you in Visa gift cards). After every grocery shopping trip, I’d use the scanner they sent me (now you use an app on your phone), to scan the items I purchased.
Sometimes I was asked to take special surveys, or scan extra trips, like my gas receipts, but mostly, it was just scanning groceries.
Yes, it did take time.
Yes, if you missed a week it hurt your earnings.
It was something I definitely needed to devote myself to, but with little kids, it was easy to scan everything when I got home. I remember giving them a little snack to enjoy while I scanned the groceries and put them away.
Who can be an NCP Panelist?
You have to apply by answering a few basic questions—mostly its just your age and number of people in your family and where you live. They only take a few people per area.
Some towns in Lancaster County are currently closed, but I do know of a few in the Lancaster County area that are opening up—especially the outskirt regions. Again, it depends on your address and who they already have scanning in your area!
What do you earn?
NCP only uses Visa gift cards to reward their panelists, but hey, if you want to earn a little extra cash, this is a simple solution!
Panel members are also entered into contests to win a monthly sweepstakes. The number of panel members that win the monthly sweepstakes has changed to 20 members and the dollar amount for the winning recipient is $250.
If you’re interested in making a little extra cash, it’s worth taking a few minutes to answer their preliminary questions. If spots are open in your area, you’ll then answer an in-depth survey and soon be sent details on how to start scanning!
