Did you know that July 20th, 2019 will be the 50th Anniversary of the infamous Lunar Landing! Here are some GREAT family friendly ways that you can celebrate this momentous and historic event.
1. Attend a Lancaster County Lunar Landing Event
There are many local events celebrating this historic event.
“North Museum’s Mission to the Moon” held at local library’s. During this presentation by the staff of The North Museum participants will explore the moon’s surface in preparation for designing a lunar lander. Find more information at participating library’s, Leola Library, Mountville Library, Lancaster City Library.
Become an astronaut and learn how to train to prepare for life in space at the Ephrata Librarys’ Swedes in Space event.
The Reading Museum is holding a “Lunar Landing Celebration” where you can spend the day participating in special crafts and activities in the Neag Planetarium, get creative as you make lunar themed art projects in The Museum, view the historic footage of the lunar landing, and much more!
“Pay What You Will” Friday’s is back at The State Museum for the summer. On July 19th, the Museum’s Learn at Lunchtime is all about Apollo 11: Man’s First Step Onto the Moon.
Visit Cherry Crest Farm and try out this years corn maze, “The Apollo A-Maze-Ment”, dedicated to the 50th Anniversary of the Lunar Landing.
For the entire length of the Apollo 11 mission, July 16-24, the North Museum will host various activities related to the moon and planetarium shows commemorating the 50th anniversary. On select days, guest speakers will share their expertise on topics from the Saturn V rocket to Apollo 11 to highlighting rarely seen images of Man’s first landing on the Moon.
If you can attend only one date, pick the actual 50th anniversary date of Saturday, July 20th, when astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first to walk on the moon.
Join a one day camp at the North Museum where campers will Explore the Apollo Mission to the Moon at our STEAM Summer Camp. Build a Rover, Crater Creator, Apollo Landing Activity, a Presentation by a NASA Ambassador and more!
2. Watch the Original Lunar Landing
There are many ways to watch the original footage of the Lunar Landing, including—attending the Historic Moon Landing Webinar at the Milanof Schock Library on Monday, July 15th at 4pm or you can watch the restored footage on youtube here.
