It’s the middle of February in Pennsylvania. The sky has been gray for months, everything is brown and dead and has been for awhile, it’s cold, and inside most of us are anticipating spring like we never have before.
What can help change your days around and keep your endurance persisting amidst these cold, dreary days? How about succulents? Succulents fill your home with a permanent green sign of life that’s not overbearing like some other house plants, and quite stylish whether you prefer urban trends or farmhouse style. Succulents, unlike other houseplants, preserve the consumption of water and produce oxygen at night while your other plants are producing carbon dioxide.
This February I found a deal to try Succulent Studios—receiving 2 succulents—for just $8 (including shipping!). So I decided to try it. Here is why I was glad I did, and who I think should and should not try this subscription service.

How much is succulent studios?
Succulent Studios normally costs $10/month (plus shipping), but you can sign up for your first month with a 20% off discount—making it just $8 with FREE shipping!
That’s $2 off your first order plus FREE shipping credited to your account.
You can ship your succulents to your home address, work, or a friend in another state (more on that later!)
How do you care for succulents?
If you tend to be a green thumb, like myself, in my opinion you’re in the right place with Succulent Studios. They do a terrific job of including care cards for each plant and a small care instruction booklet for how to best get started with your succulents.
I have much more confidence in these succulents having a long life than I did for previous succulents I’ve owned, when I had to figure out care instructions on my own.
How long do succulents live?
You can expect many succulents to live for several years, although it really does depend on which succulent variety you have. You’ll probably find that you’ll be able to enjoy your succulents for a lifespan of about six to eight years. Assuming its properly taken care of, of course. 🙂 I really do think the care cards will help you with that though! I decided to keep my cards right next to my plants to remind me of proper care.
How long does Succulent Studios take to ship?
I ordered mine on Monday, February 10 and was originally hoping to get them by Friday for Valentine’s Day. They ended up arriving the following Monday, on the 17th. It wasn’t a problem, but I would warn you to consider a longer shipping period than you might expect. Their website says orders are shipped within a few business days after the order is placed.
How do I cancel my subscription to Succulent Studios?
If you decide that receiving a monthly unique succulent isn’t for you, and you don’t want to gift it to anyone else, it is incredibly easy to cancel your subscription. Just open your account page and then click the button that says cancel subscription.
You might also choose to only receive succulent orders during the dreary winter months. I cancelled mine right away without a problem.
Who should try Succulent Studios?
While I loved receiving my order, and had no problems or negative feedback with the process, I did decide that I probably wouldn’t place the order again for MYSELF, but here is who I would recommend gifting a box to:
- Best friends. What friend wouldn’t love to receive two special succulents in a cute box just as a thinking of you or birthday gift?
- Friends who live in another state. This is a simple and cute non-traditional birthday gift idea to have delivered to friends who live far away.
- Elderly grandparents. A lot of elderly are somewhat confined in the winter months due to the threat of the flu. I’m sure many would love to receive a small succulent as a special surprise in their mail!
- College students. I think this would make a great thinking of you gift and addition to any college dorm room!
- Your spouse. Ok, this is kind of unique, but what a great way to communicate your love for your spouse by having a package arrive for them at work with two succulents that they can enjoy on their desk!
- Newcomers to plant parenthood. Because of the carefully prepared care cards and instructions, I think this would be a perfect gift for anyone who has never had a succulent before or who thinks they do not have a green thumb!
