Do you desire to instill Godly character traits in your sons and daughters?
This book is the result of a plan that Bonni developed and used with her eight children, who are now grown-adults living out their lives for Christ every day. She wrote down the steps that needed to be taken, the verses that they read and memorized, and ideas to role play what they were learning. And this is the guide she used with her children!
How to Use This Family Guide
On Mondays, gather around the kitchen table for 15-30 minutes, and define the godly character trait that you will be studying that week. Also define the opposite meaning of the word. Read several verses that pertain to the trait. Each child, depending on their age, will start to memorize at least a phrase or one of the verses. Give examples of how the particular trait will cause us to act and react.
Practice walking in the trait, and affirm each other as you progress. Take time each day to work on memorizing the verses for that week .
On Friday, gather again at the kitchen table and review the verses and what you learned that week. If you make enough progress (the parent should determine that), go to a new character trait the following Monday. If not, review the trait for another week.
Repeat the process for about 15 to 20 weeks. Then, take a break for about a month and start all over again with the same traits and verses, but different object lessons and examples.
Over several years, Bonni’s children (eventually five sons and three daughters), had memorized quite a few scriptures dealing with godly character. They also had a solid understanding of fifteen very important godly character traits, and your children will too!
A Peek Inside the Book
The book includes a character trait definition and opposites list.
There is a sheet for each godly character trait highlighting verses, the definition, the opposite, and ways to live it out and role model it with your kids. As well as a personal note to moms with tips from Bonni.
Bonus printables are at the end of the book, including a coloring page for each character trait that children can be coloring while you introduce the character trait each Monday, as well as a Family Rules and Non-Negotiables Poster you can use in your home!

Tips for Printing The Book
The Godly Character Traits Guide has been designed in full color, with the idea in mind that many may choose to print it in black and white to save on printing costs. Each page is designed to print accurately in color or black and white.
Printing the entire book in full color will usually cost about $1 per page if you go to Staples or another print and copy center. To save on printing costs, we recommend:
- Print the book in black and white (usually a cost of about $.04/page).
- Use your home printer.
- Print only the pages you are using each week.
- Ask the copy center to only print certain pages in color. For instance, you might want to print the character trait pages in color but not the coloring pages.
- Download the PDF to your iPad and read the material from there each week. Then you only have to print the coloring pages, if you choose to do so.
Giving Back
We (Bonni and Kathy) love to work together creating resources to help moms be more intentional, but we also know that we can be part of something even more!
In September 2016, Kathy was part of a South Africa Advocacy trip where her life was impacted by the African community and the work God is doing there. Take Action, the ministry she was involved with, has a vision to equip and empower the locals, to show Jesus to other locals. Locals are developing a sustainable church.
We want to share with you just a few stories from South Africa:
- One young native South African leader was asked about his vision for his life—his response was that he wants to transform people.
- Another young dad, knew nothing about agriculture three years ago. Nothing. He started learning as much as he could, and planted 50 spinach plants in his own back yard. Why? Because he saw it as a way to use the gospel to reach people for Christ.
- Elizabeth runs the community center at Reagoboka. Tears filled her eyes as she shared about how she used to sit and pray every day for a bigger building to help the children in her community. And now God is answering that prayer as the second building is being built!
- They warned us that the children at the Maubane Community Center would need to be loved on. They don’t have much touch or cuddling in their homes, if any at all.
As we finalized the details of this book, our hearts tugged at the thought of South Africa and how God might use this resource to not only help local moms, but to also help moms and children in South Africa. In obedience and trust in God, we are offering this book completely to Him and the work He is doing in South Africa. A portion of the sales will go to the work He is doing there.
